Not all soaps are made equal

Picture
“Wash your hands” has become the life mantra in the ongoing Covid-19 phase. But have you ever wondered what’s the effect of washing your hands with any random soap and what you should be using instead? Let's acquaint you with some of the disadvantages of using such commonly available soaps and find out where can you buy sustainable soaps from:

  1. Soap strips skin of lipids. Lipids keep your skin soft by keeping skin hydrated and protecting its deeper layers. They also help protect skin from diseases. They are antimicrobial and work with a peptide called cathelicidin to help regulate your immune system. When you use a soap, it destroys the lipid-peptide barrier that maintains your immune system. Just like Redo is a building block of your sustainable life, lipids are a building block of your skin barrier. Lipids are at the core of filling the gaps between your epidermal cells. But soap is so acidic that it strips away the lipids, which are the essence of your cellular structure.
  2. Soap kills bacteria. Not all bacteria are bad. There are good bacteria as well. Good bacteria are important to protect you from invading microbes. Good bacteria are important because they help keep bad bacteria like notorious microbes, which can cause diseases, at bay. The pH of soap is either so acidic or so sharply neutral that it kills all the good bacteria.
  3. Soap contains other toxins and chemicals. Usually, soaps are made of lye and fat or oil with an added bonus of dangerous chemicals. For example SLS, i.e., Sodium Lauryl Sulfate is known as a mutagen that can alter cellular materials. Benzyl Acetate is a known carcinogenic agent. Benzaldehyde can depress the nervous system. These kinds of toxins make classically formulated soap terrible for your body.

Hence, you must always look into investing in a good eco-friendly soap. In India, you can find good soaps from Kama Ayurveda and Sunflower. Try them and feel the difference.
